Cecil W. Powell was the sole founder of Cecil W. Powell & Company. A graduate of Georgia Tech, he moved to Jacksonville in order to manage a surety bond department with another corporation. In time, however, his expertise in the insurance field fostered the desire to establish a company of his own. In January of 1935, Cecil W. Powell & Company made its first mark in the world of insurance. In 1973, Fitzhugh K. Powell, Sr., son of Cecil W. Powell, was named agency President and principal owner. Today, he continues to serve the company as Chairman of the board while his son, Fitzhugh K. Powell, Jr., AAI, CRIS, CWCA has been the company President since 1993.
Founded as a Florida based company, Cecil W. Powell & Company has remained located in Jacksonville, Florida since its origination. Today, the corporate office is found in the beautiful, historic Morocco Temple building located at 219 N. Newnan Street. Registered with the National Historic Society, the building as been completely renovated under governmental rules. Built in 1910, the building has withstood time and prevails as a symbol of fortitude to this day.
